Amanda Brugel

(February 27th of 2010 to Toronto ON) Pointe Claire is a quiet community located on that part of the island of Montreal known as"the West Island. The West Island can be confusing to those unfamiliar to its significance. They often believe it is an island that lies west of Montreal, but it is actually a part of the city. West Island encompasses everything between the cities that are Lachine and West. Amanda Brugel grew up on the island and is frequently called her birthplace. However, she only resided there for a very short period of time. Brugel was raised in Courtice near Oshawa in Ontario. Her initial ambition was to be an actor, however, after a rapid increase in size, her friends weren't able to dance along with her. In an interview with Toronto Star, she confessed that "In heels I am 6 feet and 1 inch." As I grew older than my male partners I stopped. Many dancers make the transition to acting. In the case of the Brugel family, it was their drama instructor who pushed her to go in this direction. She was recommended by a teacher to find a role in the school's annual show. After a few auditions her options, she was eventually the leading lady for Anne of Green Gables. It led to her receiving the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship from York University. In 2000 she graduated with a BA in Fine Arts at York University. The career of Brugel spans more than 20 years and she's appeared in 60 different productions including big screen productions and smaller ones. Her most notable role was as Rita (pictured in the below photo) in the television show The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel made an appearance on only a handful of moments in the very first season of the series The Handmaid's tale. The only Canadian member.
